Roof Refurbishment
Budget: £1.0M
The 6,700 square meters roof of this 1980’s industrial building had reached end-of life and required complete refurbishment to prevent serious water ingress from damaging products and reducing productivity.
The work was carried out safely without interruption to the Client’s business and included removal of the old top sheeting. Improved thermal insulation was laid before fitting new roof lights and steel sheeting. All the gutters were re-lined and rainwater pipes renewed
To improve sustainability, opportunity was taken to provide a renewable energy installation in the form of an extensive array of PV panels, offering substantial reductions on annual electricity costs to the business. The project also included replacing the old fluorescent lighting system in the warehouse. The new high-efficiency LED lighting with integral presence detection will provide further electrical cost savings.
As well as improving efficiency, the new roof will guarantee a further life for the building of at least 25 years. Robson Warren Architects provided full architectural services including contract administration.
The warehouse roof area is over 6,700 square meters
The renewable electricity produced by the PV system is calculated to save 47T of CO2 emissions annually.
New rooflights have improved daylighting in the warehouse.
Walkways have been added to provide safe access for maintenance.
